President Chávez to receive Leadership Award from CECLEF

The Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation (CECLEF) will honor OLLU President Abel A. Chávez, MBA, PhD, with the “Soaring Àguila for Leadership Award” at the Àguila Awards gala on March 23.

CECLEF is recognizing Dr. Chávez for his leadership and accomplishments as president since his arrival in 2022. CECLEF cited his efforts with OLLU staff to secure more than $31 million in donations and grants as well as raising the university’s profile through more than 300 visits with local, state and national leaders.

“It is an honor to receive this award from the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation,” Dr. Chávez said. “This award would not be possible without the support and hard work of our tremendous faculty and staff at OLLU.”

César Chávez March for Justice to take place Saturday

The César Chávez March for Justice is scheduled to take place Saturday beginning at the intersection of Guadalupe and Brazos Streets. OLLU Alumna and District 7 City Councilwoman Rosie Castro and her sons, Joaquin and Julian Castro, will be the grand marshals.

A morning program with speakers will begin at 9 a.m. and the two-mile march will step off headed to Hemisfair Plaza beginning at 10 a.m. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. there will be a celebration at Hemisfair Plaza featuring music by DJ Plata.

Recently, OLLU hosted the kick-off press conference for the march on the steps of Sacred Heart Chapel.

Organizers of César E. Chávez March for Justice will hold press conference on campus on March 7

The organizers of the 27th Annual César E. Chávez March for Justice will hold a press conference on the steps of Sacred Heart Chapel on March 7 at 10 a.m. During the press conference, which will be attended by a number of community leaders, the details about the 27th annual march will be announced.

The kick-off press conference has traditionally been held on the steps of City Hall. This year the organizers are moving the press conference to OLLU and President Abel A. Chávez, MBA, PhD, will be a featured speaker. The university community is encouraged to attend the event and learn more about the march.
