Hendrick Ramirez earns All-America honors in 1500 meters

OLLU’s Hendrick Ramirez finished fifth in the 1500 meters at the 72nd Annual NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championship last week, earning All-American honors.

The Saints men competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100mR, 1500m and the Triple Jump.

Ramirez made it into the finals in the 1500m after placing first in his heat with a time of 3:53.68. That time propelled him to the finals held today, and he finished in fifth with a time of 3:50.62 to earn NAIA All-American honors. Ramirez also earned NAIA All-American honors in the one-mile event of the Indoor National Championship earlier this year.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “Hendrick Ramirez being an individual NAIA All-American was a clear highlight. As the rest of our opens mature, our national performance will climb as well. A controversial call took our chances at an incredible 4x400m relay, but I am proud of them and the whole squad.”

Men’s indoor track opens season with records, NCAA qualifying marks

The OLLU men’s indoor track and field team opened its 2023-2024 season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational in Kansas, sponsored by Pittsburg State University. The event was held Dec. 9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center – Harvey Dean Track.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We are so far ahead of where we were last year. Comparing our season opener this year is like night and day. We set several records, and DJ (De’Jon Lewis) hitting the triple standard was a huge accomplishment. Hendrick (Ramirez) hitting both standards by how much he did was another highlight of a pretty good day.

Two members of the team logged NAIA qualifying marks. De’Jon Lewis recorded an “A” standard of 14.45m for fourth place in the triple jump. Hendrick Ramirez turned in the ninth best time in the 3000m with an “A” standard time of 8:28.58. His time is an OLLU record.
