OLLU’s annual two-part ring ceremony set for Thursday, Friday

OLLU will hold its annual two-part ring ceremony on Thursday and Friday. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend and celebrate students who are receiving their graduation rings.

The first part of the ceremony – Ring the Bell – will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. on the front plaza starting at Providence Hall followed by a procession to Sacred Heart Chapel. After a brief ceremony, the rings will be taken to the bell tower where they will spend the night guarded by OLLU Police. When the rings arrive in the tower, the chapel bells will be rung eight times representing the eight-sided design of the traditional OLLU ring.

On Friday, the second half of the ceremony – Rings Up – will take place at 7 p.m. in Thiry Auditorium where the rings will be presented to the students. Refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Second annual Ring Ceremony events set for Thursday and Friday

OLLU’s new Ring Ceremony events, now in their second year, will take place Thursday and Friday.

Ring’ the Bell Event
The first part of the ceremony, titled “‘Ring’ the Bell,” takes place Thursday. Graduating students who have purchased an OLLU ring – along with guests – will gather in the front plaza by Providence Hall beginning at 6 p.m. for a procession to the front of Sacred Heart Chapel. The rings will be taken up to the bell tower, where they will spend the night while being guarded by OLLU police. Once the rings are secured for the night, the chapel bells will be rung eight times (in honor of the eight Beatitudes and the eight-sided stone on the traditional OLLU ring). Participants will enjoy refreshments and music.

Rings Up Event
On Friday, graduates will receive their rings during the “Rings Up” ceremony in Thiry Auditorium. Faculty who would like to participate in the Ring Ceremony procession should wear regalia and gather at Chapel Auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. Faculty and graduating students will process from Chapel Auditorium to Thiry Auditorium for the 7 p.m. ceremony where graduating students will receive their rings. A reception with refreshments will be held in the Mall Area following the ceremony where graduates will be invited to dip their rings in the fountain for a special blessing.

Graduates will be able to take a photo in front of an eight-foot tall replica of the OLLU ring.
