OLLU women finish second in RRAC Track and Field Championship

The women’s track and field team captured the runner-up trophy at the 2023 Red River Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships. Winning the meet this year was Xavier University of Louisiana with 309 points, while OLLU earned 205. 

OLLU had several champions including Robbie Sue Espericueta, who won the 10000m, Lindsey Broussard captured the 5000m, Deandra Ibarra secured the 1500m and Victoria Sweeney came up with the win in the javelin throw.

After the event that spanned two days, the university honored seniors Broussard, Savannah Cassiano, Espericueta, Makhayla Parker and Alondra Toledo. Parker was also recognized as her team’s Champions of Character representative.

The men’s track and field team captured its first Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Track and Field Championship earlier today. OLLU hosted the event at Antonian High School, and participants included OLLU, the University of the Southwest and Jarvis Christian College.

Since the track and field teams began competing in 2015, the men have placed fifth in 2015, third in 2016, second in 2017, third in 2018 and second in 2019. The season was canceled in 2020.

The Saints finished with a total of 169 points, Jarvis had 137 points and Southwest had 44.

The women’s team finished as runners-up.

Since track and field began competing at OLLU in 2015, the women placed fourth in 2015, second in 2016, second in 2017 and second in 2019. The Saints won the RRAC title in 2018.

The Saints finished with 155 points, while first-place winner Jarvis Christian College had 170 and third-place finisher the University of the Southwest tallied 88 points.

After the meet, OLLU celebrated seniors Destiny Joseph and Victoria De La Cruz.
