OLLU volleyball sweeps weekend series against Texas College

The volleyball team swept Texas College (TC) 3-0 in both matches this weekend. The Saints improve to 18-4 overall and 14-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Steers drop to 0-17 overall and 0-14 in conference. OLLU has won 13 straight matches with two contests left in the regular season.

History
The Saints were 24-0 against the Steers prior to the weekend series.

First match (Oct. 28)
Basics
The Saints put on another impressive performance in conference play on Friday night. They limited the Steers to negative hitting percentages in the first and third set. OLLU committed only seven errors and Dailyn Mann led the team with seven kills. Mia Francis and Madalyn Gonzalez both had multiple solo blocks.

Set review
In the first set, OLLU recorded seven kills and no errors on 14 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .500.

The Saints had 13 kills in the second set and four errors on 28 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .321.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 10 kills and three errors on 20 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .350.

On the offense
Overall, the Saints had 30 kills for a hitting percentage of .371. Texas College totaled eight kills for a hitting percentage of -.133.

Mann led the Saints with seven kills. Tatiana Fuller and Kaitlynn Lewis totaled a team-high two kills each for the Steers.

Rebekah Bustamante assisted on 19 plays for the Saints while Fuller tallied three assists for Texas College.

Defensive standouts
OLLU had a total of 35 digs, led by Tina Trevino with six. Kendria Burelson tallied nine digs for the Steers.

Serving it up
Camila Ramirez had six service aces for the Saints. Fuller and Lewis had one ace each for Texas College.

Second match (Oct. 29)
Basics
The Saints swept Texas College again on Saturday with improved numbers from the prior match. They committed only three errors and totaled 34 kills. Eight OLLU players recorded at least one kill and Evelyn Ortega led the team with 14 digs. The Steers struggled with two sets of negative hitting percentages. The Saints remained undefeated in conference play at 14-0.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 10 kills and one error on 23 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .391.

The Saints had 14 kills in the second set and one error on 21 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .619.

In the third set, OLLU recorded 10 kills and one error on 27 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .333.

On the offense
Overall, the Saints had 34 kills for a hitting percentage of .437. Texas College totaled 15 kills for a hitting percentage of -.070.

Francis and Mia Dorsey led the Saints with eight kills each. Fuller totaled a team-high seven kills for the Steers.

Lauren Reynard assisted on 19 plays for the Saints while Burelson tallied six assists for Texas College.

Defensive standouts
OLLU had a total of 47 digs, led by Ortega with 14. Fuller tallied nine digs for the Steers.

Serving it up
Ramirez had three service aces for the Saints. Valencia Miles had two aces for Texas College.
