Women’s track and field succeeds at UT and Texas State meets

Members of the women’s track and field team participated in the University of Texas Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Texas State University Bobcat Invitational 2023 this past weekend.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “Our women’s team continued to show their consistent growth. Our 4x100m relay ran solid at the Texas Relays, and our women in the 100m ran well there, as well. We had plenty of PRs and solid performances across the entire weekend.”

Women’s track and field sets four records

The women’s track and field team participated in the Charles Austin Classic at Texas State University.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We had a huge weekend for school records and PRs. Being able to come to big meets and perform to our abilities is a testament to the talent our athletes have but also the confidence they’ve built working with their coaches. We are getting closer to a slew of national qualifier marks and I know this group is only getting better.

Significant results included OLLU records set by Viridiana Zuniga in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 13:23.04, Deandra Ibarra in the 800m with a time of 2:18.69, Autumn Roberts in the 400m with a time of 58.56 and Kiana Kebbi in the 200m with a time of 24.96.

Women’s track and field competed against NCAA D1 schools

The women’s track and field team placed in the top 10 in four events at the UTSA Invitational on Saturday. OLLU’s participation in this event was the first-ever in school history; the Saints competed against NCAA D1 schools from throughout the country and was the only non NCAA school at the meet.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “All weather conditions considered, I’m proud of the way we competed. There was a very high level of track and field athletes present at this meet and OLLU athletes held their own.

What’s next
The Saints will compete next at the Charles Austin Classic hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, March 24-25.

Nadia Sifuentes sets OLLU record at Hilton Memorial Invitational

The women’s indoor track and field team participated in the University of Houston’s Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on Jan. 13.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We weren’t as sharp as I would have hoped for coming off of winter break. But it’s a good lesson for our athletes to learn. Preparation over winter is everything. That being said, we had a school record and some good performances that I’m proud of and am excited to build off of.”

Nadia Sifuentes set the OLLU school record in the 800m with a time of 2:27.54.

Women’s track and field competed at Fastrak Collegiate opener

OLLU women’s indoor track and field team participated at the FasTrak Collegiate Opener at the University of Houston on Saturday.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We had really exciting things happen for our women at this meet. I’m proud of our freshmen for getting through their first meet with the composure that they did. All of our groups did excellent.
