Christopher Minner becomes most winningest coach in OLLU women’s basketball history

Minner3After Saturday’s 98-50 win for the women’s basketball team over Bacone College, Head Coach Christopher Minner became the winningest coach in OLLU women’s basketball history. His career 47 wins surpassed previous head coach Rusty Kennedy’s 46 wins over two seasons. Minner’s career losses are six, compared to 17 for Kennedy at OLLU. The victory moves the Saints to 8-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 17-2 overall, while Bacone drops to 2-7 in the conference and 5-11 overall. The Saints are ½ a game behind league-leader Wiley College (9-1/19-2), but are ranked in the NAIA higher than Wiley — No. 10 compared to No. 12 for the Lady Wildcats. WomensBB2-3-1Head Coach Minner commented, “The key for us was we were able to execute plays, and we played hard. I think we could have played better. Our bench played very hard, and I am glad we were able to get everyone on the court.”  Electra Roberts scored a season-high 20 points for the Saints including 9-of-14 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds. Nelly Flores scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Destiny Melton recorded her second double-double of the season after she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mercedes Dobson also scored 10 points. The Saints shot 41 percent from the field, 26 percent from 3-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line. They forced 30 turnovers, while committing 13. The Saints will play their next two games on the road. On Feb. 6, they will be in Hobbs, N.M. to play the University of the Southwest.
