Women’s soccer defeats Texas College in conference game

WomensSoccer10-13-2The women’s soccer team continued its unbeaten record in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) after defeating Texas College (TC) 5-0 Saturday night. The Saints move to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the RRAC while TC is now 0-11-1 and 0-3. It took the Saints 32 minutes to get on the board via Abigail Hernandez, who scored the first goal of the match. Hernandez then scored her second goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Senior captain and OLLU women’s soccer all-time leading scorer, Stephanie Diaz, continued to add to her record after providing the third goal in the match in the 69th minute. Amaris Tavares and Hayley Tiernay closed out the scoring with consecutive goals in the final two minutes of the match. The Saints will now travel to Brownsville for a battle with the University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) for first place in the RRAC. The Saints and the Ocelots are the only remaining undefeated teams in the conference. Kickoff between the Saints and the Ocelots is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 16. Read full story online.
