OLLU women’s basketball surrenders 19-point lead as Oklahoma Baptist rallies into quarterfinals

Womens Basketball NAIA Tourney 2015-2No lead seems insurmountable at the 2015 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, presented by Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City, as the second-seeded Bison of Oklahoma Baptist climbed out of a 19-point hole to beat No. 3 OLLU, 77-75, and advance to the quarterfinals. Head Coach Christopher Minner said, “In the second half, we didn’t get a lot of offensive rebounds. I thought we stopped trapping hard in the corners on our defense. We let them get some looks, and we got nervous when they started cutting into our lead. I thought we turned it over too much in the second half and at the end they got a lot of rebounds, including three key ones in the last minute of the game. We had three good looks at the end and we couldn’t make any baskets. The key was after they made their run, we couldn’t answer. They are a good team and they’ve been in the top 10 all year, but we are a very good team, too. Ultimately, the team that played harder and more consistent won tonight. We weren’t consistent, and we got rattled. Overall it was a good season, and we have a lot of returners. In the locker room we told the women that the reason we coach hard is to avoid what happened today and how we all feel. But again, it comes down to who played harder and more consistent. Maybe I should have coached better, I’ll look at that, but it was a tough loss — we should have won.” Read full article online.
