Students invited to session on Fulbright U.S. Student Program

All undergraduate and graduate students are invited to attend a workshop on the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, Monday, Oct. 10, from 4:15-5 p.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room.

The workshop will provide more information on the fully funded grants available for study, research or English Teaching Assistantships in more than 140 countries.

FAFSA now open for 2017-2018 academic year

The Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) for the 2017-2018 academic year is now open. Students and families will be able to complete the FAFSA using information from their 2015 tax returns.

Now that students can apply for financial aid packages earlier, OLLU can provide financial aid notifications earlier, ensuring that students and their families have more time to prepare for education costs and provide additional time for OLLU to offer beneficial financial aid counseling.

For more information, students are encouraged to visit the Financial Aid Office and speak with a counselor.

Health screenings for employees available on Wednesday

Health screenings will be available for OLLU Medical Plan participants on Wednesday from 6:30-9:30 a.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room.

Screenings include cholesterol, glucose, liver function, kidney function, electrolytes, iron and hemoglobin A1c, blood pressure, height, weight and body mass index (BMI) among others.

Staff Advisory Council sponsoring Weight Watchers at Work program

The Staff Advisory Council is hosting the Weight Watchers at Work program for OLLU employees. The 17-week program will be offered at a discounted rate of $158.10 or three payments of $52.70. The program will begin as soon as 20 people have signed up.

The deadline to sign up is Oct. 4.

Saints fans invited to Second Annual Halo Classic


soccerhaloclassicThe women’s soccer team will host St. Mary’s University on Tuesday in the second annual Halo Classic. In last year’s inaugural matchup between the two Catholic universities located less than three miles apart, the Rattlers defeated the Saints 2-0. This year, the Saints hope to have a better outcome. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Men’s tennis wins one of two in first matches of 2016

tennis9-30The men’s tennis team defeated Spring Hill College 7-2 in the first match of the fall season. The Saints went on to lose to Loyola University New Orleans 4-5. In doubles, Bernardo Pegas and Mathias Rocha won both of their matches. Jacob Galaviz and Joshua Bailey won their doubles against Spring Hill, and Galaviz paired up with Pablo Cavasos against Loyola to win their doubles match. In singles, Rocha and Pegas won their matches. Galaviz, Bailey and Cavasos won their singles matches against Spring Hill, but lost their matches to Loyola.

Women’s soccer takes record-breaking 58 shots in 9-0 win over Paul Quinn

womenssoccer10-1-16It was an epic weekend for the women’s soccer team. Earlier last week, the team tied the record for the most shots-on-goal with 29, and on Saturday, the Saints shattered the record for most shots taken with 58. The Saints went on to defeat Paul Quinn College 9-0 to improve to 8-2 overall. Brooke Cousins and Hayley Tiernay scored two goals each, while Pauline Fields, Victoria Castro, Amaris Tavares, Erica Robertson and Ruby Coronado scored one each.

Volleyball defeats RRAC conference leader St. Thomas in four sets

The volleyball team defeated the University of St. Thomas, overtaking them at the top of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) standings. The Saints improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in conference, while St. Thomas is 11-13 overall 5-2 in conference. They remain undefeated at home. With the win in four sets (18-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-23), they pulled to 12-12 all-time against the Celts.
