Mathias Rocha captures singles title in turkey tournament

tennis-turkeywinnersTennis’ Mathias Rocha captured the top prize at the 26th Annual Green Tree Turkey Tournament men’s singles open division after defeating Daniel Gill in the championship match. Head Coach Sal Castillo and his son, Patric, won the doubles match.

Rocha entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 seed Bernardo Pegas, who won the tournament last year. Pegas made it to the semifinals game, but was defeated by Daniel Gill 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. Rocha overpowered Andrew Garcia 6-0, 6-1 and then beat Oscar Ferrero 6-2, 6-1. He hammered Humberto Lobo 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the finals, where he battled Gill to win 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. The tournament was held Nov. 18-20 at the Green Tree Tennis Club in San Antonio.
