Softball participates in Cowtown Classic

The softball team participated in the NAIA Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas, this past weekend. The Saints were only able to play four of five games – the last game was cancelled due to below-freezing temperatures in the area. The women defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University 10-5 to open the tournament, and then beat the No. 2 team in the NAIA Columbia College 2-1. They lost the third game 3-2 to Ottawa University and then defeated Bethany College 8-3. The Saints are now 3-1 on the season.

Strategic Planning Update and Showcase set for Feb. 13

Faculty and staff are invited to a Strategic Planning Update and Showcase on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from noon-1:30 p.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room followed by a poster session in Providence Hall, West Social Room. Members of the Strategic Planning Committee will present an overview of the progress that has been made and present information on the various initiatives that have been proposed.

Initiatives have been categorized into three broad areas:

  • New and Improved Academic Programs
  • Recruitment, Advisement, Retention and College Affordability
  • Improved Campus Life/Community Building

Following the showcase, participants will have the opportunity to sign up for in-depth dialogue sessions on each of the category areas above to provide feedback on areas of interest. Dialogue sessions will be held the following dates and times:

  • Monday, Feb. 19: 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 20: 1:30-5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 27: 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 1: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

36 students receive the 2016-2017 President’s Volunteer Service Award

The OLLU Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism (CSLV) is pleased to announce that the President’s Volunteer Service Award has been awarded to 36 students who have completed at least 100 hours of community service within the 2016-2017 academic year.

The purpose of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a White House Initiative, is to motivate Americans to reach out to their community and dedicate their time to transforming society into a more stable environment.

The honor is awarded to those who have completed at least 100 hours of service within a year. The award is given at the bronze, silver and gold levels. The bronze medal is awarded to those who completed 100-174 hours, the silver medal is awarded to those who completed at least 175 hours and the gold medal is awarded to those who completed 250 hours or more. Mandatory employee orientation must be completed by Feb. 9

The Office of Human Resources has released the first online Annual Employee Orientation. This is a mandatory orientation for all employees and must be completed by Friday, Feb. 9.

To contribute to a more effective and productive employment year, this presentation will reestablish OLLU’s purpose and structure, encompass the current OLLU policies to ensure training compliance efforts, review customer service standards and provide additional information and resources to carry out the new year.

OLLU men’s basketball secures win against Jarvis

The OLLU men’s basketball team snuck by Jarvis Christian College (JCC) on Saturday with a 67-60 win to improve to 17-7 overall and 11-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). JCC drops to 4-17 overall and 1-11 in conference.

The Saints are 16-3 against the Bulldogs. Earlier this season, the Saints defeated JCC 91-81.

Head Coach Ryan Wall said, “We played good defense in the second half. We bounced back and got a win. We have to prepare now for two more road games this week.” Read full story online.

The OLLU women’s basketball team defeated Jarvis Christian College (JCC) 82-60 Saturday evening to improve to 17-7 overall and 11-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while JCC drops to 2-18 overall and 1-10 in conference.

The Saints are 17-2 against the Bulldogs. Earlier this season, the Saints defeated JCC 83-59.

Head Coach Christopher Minner said, “We struggled shooting tonight but turned up the defense in the fourth quarter which was the key to our victory. We played really well in the fourth after playing sluggish for most of the game. It was a really physical game that took us awhile to adjust to but we took care of business this weekend. We need to continue to get better. We have two more road games coming up.” Read full story online.
