OLLU softball ends season with loss to Houston-Victoria in conference tournament

After a whirl of time, date and venue changes due to inclement weather in the Dallas area, the OLLU softball team was finally able to play its Red River Athletic Conference Championship Tournament game last Saturday. Originally scheduled to play on Friday at 6:30 p.m., the Saints faced the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) (after the Jaguars beat the University of the Southwest) at 10:45 p.m. on Saturday. The tournament was adjusted to single elimination with all games played on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. The championship game took place Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Unfortunately, the Saints were not able to come out ahead against the Jaguars, arguably, the conference’s most successful team despite being the third seed. Prior to the tournament, UHV had won 12 of the last 13 games, with the one loss being against the Saints on April 27. Saturday, the Jaguars proved too tough for the Saints, as they powered through a 12-4 win to advance to the tournament championship game. They faced the newest member of the conference – Texas A&M University – Texarkana – and they defeated the Eagles 10-9 to advance to the nationals later this month. Read full story online.
