Soccer teams defeat LSU-Shreveport
The women’s soccer team took down LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 2-0 on Saturday. The Saints improve to 9-4-1 on the season and 6-2 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. The Saints are currently in first place in the RRAC with one match remaining this season. Before the game, four-year seniors Victoria Castro and Maryssa Garza and two-year senior Ilaina Brenes-Rodriguez were honored with a special ceremony.
The men’s soccer team upset NAIA No. 16-ranked LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 2-1. The Saints improve to 10-4-2 on the season and 6-1-1 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play. Before the game, the university honored two-year senior Raul Posadas and four-year seniors Giovanni Cardenas and Guillermo Serrano. The match included a flurry of fouls that totaled to 34. There were also six yellow cards shown during the match. The Saints scored early when Luan Balestieri caught LSUS goalkeeper Saul Ocampo far out of his net and booted a 52-yard goal over his head. The tally breaks the Saints franchise record for farthest goal. Juan Martin Chica put the Saints up 2-0 with a goal late in the first half at the 45th minute. The teams will play their last regular season games next Saturday at the University of Houston-Victoria.
