Softball announces renovations and upgrades to facilities
The softball program has been working diligently to improve the softball field and facilities during the offseason.
The renovations include enhancing the warning track, expanding the dugouts, customizing dugout benches and adding the netting of the backstop. The implementation of changes began in late July. Plans are for the backstop to be installed this weekend.
Head Coach Bruce Lenington commented, “All of the improvements we worked on this summer were in the confines of many donations and members of the community that stepped up. Our coaching staff donated time and energy to get the renovations done. We believe our athletes and alumni will be proud of the changes we have made. We look forward to playing and representing OLLU on this field.”
According to Lenington, community partners Brown’s Mobile Welding and UST Concrete donated services to aid in the improvements for the field.
Lenington led the team to a 3-0 mark in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play during the 2019-2020 season before it was canceled by the NAIA due to COVID-19. OLLU defeated two teams that received votes in the NAIA Top 25 rankings in his shortened first year at the helm. The Saints are entering their 12th season in 2020-2021.
