OLLU to encourage voter registration on ‘Constitution Day’
Thursday, Sept. 17 is Constitution Day. On this day in 1787 in Philadelphia, 39 delegates signed the U.S. Constitution. The event occurred in the same place where the Declaration of Independence was signed. One of the many important parts of our Constitution is the process for electing a president, representatives, and senators. The 15th, 19th, 24th and 26th amendments, as well as the Voting Rights Act, expanded the right to vote.
The Law and Politics Society (LPS) and OLLU staff will host a voter registration table in the cafeteria during the community hour on Thursday. Students, faculty and staff may stop by to register to vote, change their voter registration address or find out important information about voting.
The Law and Politics Society is issuing “A Call to Action.” It is challenging every student, faculty and staff member to contact five family members or friends and urge them to register to vote. Visit MOVETEXAS.org/register to get help registering to vote.
