OLLU marks World Teachers’ Day

With a long and distinguished history of preparing educators, OLLU is marking World Teachers’ Day today with blue ribbons on trees in front of campus and a video from President Diane Melby, EdD, to support the #TeachersCan movement.

Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day has been held to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

The first student to enroll at Our Lady of the Lake College in 1911, Rosalie McNelly, became a Sister of Divine Providence and a math professor. Since the enrollment of Sister Mary Presentation, CDP, (BA Math 1918), OLLU has sent thousands of educators into secondary schools, community colleges and universities across the U.S. and around the world.

Today, more than 1,000 alumni work in San Antonio area school districts.
