85th annual Candlelight Advent Service to be held on Saturday

The Division of Mission and Ministry presents the 85th annual Candlelight Advent Service on Saturday at 6 p.m. via Facebook livestream. The service will honor alumna Louise Locker (MSW ’76), best known as “Elf Louise.” Since 1969, Elf Louise and her volunteers have delivered Christmas gifts to more than 1.5 million children.

In keeping with the tradition from the early beginnings of candlelight by OLLU’s founders, the Sisters of Divine Providence, OLLU is asking for unwrapped toys, which will be donated to the Elf Louise Project.

After 50 years, Locker is retiring from the Elf Louise Project. She leaves with fond memories of her education and experience at OLLU.

“I loved my teachers,” she told the Alumni Newsletter in 2014. “They were so caring and encouraging and gave me the feeling I could make some sort of difference in the world.”
