Volleyball wins two of three matches this past weekend

The volleyball team defeated Jarvis Christian College (JCC) 3-0 on Friday to open the 2021 season. On Saturday, the Saints lost to Wayland Baptist University 3-2 and defeated Jarvis 3-0. The Saints begin the year 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.

The Saints put on a dominant performance in the first match of the season against Jarvis. OLLU recorded 13 kills in the first set and didn’t allow any by the Bulldogs. They forced six errors by Jarvis in the second set and posted an impressive .579 hitting percentage. The Saints closed the match by allowing only eight points in the third set.

On Saturday, in the first match against WBU, the Saints were pushed to a fifth set and lost 17-15 in the final frame. Wayland Baptist finished 2-0 in the OLLU Tri-Match by defeating JCC prior to the match against the Saints.

The Saints came out strong in the second match of the OLLU Tri-Match against JCC. They defeated the Bulldogs in straight sets and showcased an impressive .550 kill percentage. OLLU held Jarvis to single-digit points in the first two sets.

The Saints head to New Orleans to participate in the New Orleans Tournament. They will play University of the Cumberlands at 12 p.m. and Xavier University of Louisiana at 6 p.m. on Feb. 5. OLLU concludes the tournament by facing Faulkner University on Feb. 6 at 1 p.m.
