Volleyball sweeps all three conference players of the week

Sadie Ballesteros (SO/San Antonio, Texas) earned recognition as the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Jan. 18-24. Her teammates, Anissa Tamez (SR/San Antonio, Texas) and Alyssa Marquez (JR/Albuquerque, N.M.) received the RRAC Setter of the Week and RRAC Defender of the Week awards for the same dates as the Saints swept this week’s awards.

This is the first set of conference awards for the 2020 volleyball season, which is typically completed in the fall but was suspended to spring play this year.Ballesteros, a sophomore outside hitter from San Antonio, posted a .525 attack percentage last week as the Saints opened the season by winning two of three matches. She averaged 2.4 kills per game for the week, with 12 total in a 3-2 loss to Wayland Baptist University (WBU). Ballesteros also had eight kills and four service aces in the first of two 3-0 sweeps against Jarvis Christian College (JCC). She finished the week with 26 kills and eight digs.

Tamez, a senior setter from San Antonio, posted 80 assists last week on an 8.9 per set pace. She was second on the team in digs for the week with 46 assists and 17 digs in the loss to WBU. Tamez was second in the RRAC in assists per set last year.

Marquez, a junior libero from Albuquerque, N.M., registered 30 digs for the week. She reached double-digits in the first game against JCC (12) and WBU (16). Marquez only committed two receiving errors in 40 attempts.

Ballesteros, Tamez and Marquez were RRAC all-conference first-team selections in 2019, the last season of competition.
