Jose Zarate headed to South Dakota for NAIA indoor Track and Field meet

The official final rosters and entry lists for all qualifiers for the 2022 NAIA Men’s Indoor Track and Field National Championships have been announced.

OLLU’s Jose Zarate (SR/San Antonio, Texas) has qualified in the 3000-meter run. His qualifying time was 8:34.73.

“Jose is running phenomenally,” said Head Coach Patrick Torres. “His buildup of training has been awesome, and I like his chances of making a podium at the national meet.

Zarate is the first male student-athlete at OLLU to qualify for nationals in indoor track and field. His all-time OLLU record was set at the FasTrak Collegiate Challenge at the University of Houston on Jan. 22.

Zarate commented, “I feel excited and a little nervous to compete in such an elite field. I will be racing some of the best runners in the nation, and I’m hoping to podium. It won’t be easy, but we have been working hard and with Coach Torres’ training and support, I feel like we have a really good chance of making school history and doing something special.

Zarate will be leaving for Brookings, S.D., on March 1. The meet will take place March 4-5.
