Women’s basketball earns player and coach of the year

The Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) announced the 2022 All-Conference Women’s Basketball Team this evening. OLLU’s Keviona Barber (SR/Chicago, Ill.) has been selected as the Player of the Year, while Head Coach Jillian Flores Bennett is the Coach of the Year.

Barber, along with Natalia Trevino (JR/Laredo, Texas), are members of the All-Conference First Team. Emiko Hemphill (SR/San Antonio, Texas),  Cormia Lewis (SO/Houston, Texas) and Makayla White have been selected to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.

Barber leads the Saints in scoring with 18.3 ppg. for a total of 495 points. She is shooting 43 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line. She leads the team in assists with 4.3 apg.

Trevino leads the team in steals with 2.5 spg., and she has 3.5 apg. and 16.3 ppg. for a total of 457 points.

Hemphill is the team’s leader in rebounds with 240 for 8.9 rpg. Lewis averages 8.5 ppg. and 1.5 apg. White averages 6.7 ppg. and has 154 total rebounds for 5.5 rpg.

In her first year as head coach and first with OLLU, Flores has led the team to a 17-10 overall record and a 14-0 conference record.
