Women’s soccer downs Kansas Wesleyan in season opener 

The Saints women’s soccer team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU) 2-1 to open the 2022 season. The Saints are 1-0 while the Coyotes drop to 0-2. 

History 
The Saints and Coyotes ended a 1-1 draw in their only meeting in 2015. 

Basics 
The Saints started the 2022 campaign with a comeback victory against KWU. The Coyotes struck first in the 22nd minute when Kayla Deaver scored an unassisted goal. Kansas Wesleyan took a 1-0 advantage into halftime backed by six shots. The Saints totaled nine shots in the first half but were unable to convert. 

Maleia Jackson of the Coyotes was shown a yellow card just 45 seconds into the second half. Sarah Miles also picked up a yellow card for the Saints in the 65th minute. OLLU tied the game at the 75-minute mark with a header scored by Madison HerreraHaven Ortiz picked up the assist after passing from the corner to Herrera. Dusty Van Huss scored the game winning goal for the Saints just six minutes later with an assist from Herrera.

Leading the way for the Saints’ offense was Irania Acosta with three shots on goal. Deaver totaled three shots on goal for the Coyotes. 

Overall, the Saints tallied 20 shots, with 12 on goal. KWU recorded 11 shots with six on goal. 

OLLU had two corner kicks while the Coyotes totaled three.
