Saints volleyball impresses in sweep of Paul Quinn College

The volleyball team swept Paul Quinn College (PQC) on Saturday. The Saints improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Tigers fall to 0-6 and 0-2 in the RRAC.

Basics
The Saints defeated the Tigers in three sets on Saturday. They won all three sets 25-19 and held PQC to under .100 hitting percentage in every frame. The first set was back and forth scoring before the Saints went on a run after a 15-15 tie. Kills by Camila Ramirez and Tijana Kruta helped OLLU seal the first set. The second set saw another tie at 11-11. The Saints prevailed late in the set with more kills from Ramirez. The Tigers didn’t make the victory easy for the Saints in the third set. OLLU led 18-14 but the Tigers tallied four straight points to even the score. Mia Francis made two huge plays to give the Saints momentum following the tie. Paul Quinn made a few attacking errors late to give the Saints the victory.

In the first set, OLLU recorded 15 kills and 10 errors on 42 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .119.

Dorsey led the Saints with nine kills. Shelbriana Myers and Kennadi Harris totaled a team-high eight kills each for the Tigers.
Rebekah Bustamante assisted on 38 plays for the Saints while Jayda Trinidad tallied 22 assists for Paul Quinn.
Defensive standouts
OLLU had a total of 47 digs, led by Tina Trevino with 14. Kesmyre Smalls tallied 11 digs for the Tigers.
Serving it up
Ramirez had three service aces for the Saints. Marquise Nelson had the only service ace for Paul Quinn.
