OLLU creates exchange program with university in Mexico

OLLU and the University of Anahuac in Puebla, Mexico, have agreed to facilitate an exchange program for undergraduate and graduate students. The program enables students working towards a degree at one institution to take classes at the other institution and earn credit at the student’s home institution.

OLLU and the University of Anahuac agreed on the exchange of faculty and professional staff for the development of research, teaching, learning and university extension programs. The two institutions will be able to exchange a maximum of four students per semester.

Presently, OLLU Assistant Professor of Economics and Finance Ronald Crowe, PhD, is teaching a summer class, “Evaluation of Investment Projects,” in Puebla.

NHI Great Debate to be held on campus next week

The National Hispanic Institute’s (NHI) Texas Star Great Debate will be held on campus beginning June 20 and will run through June 24. About 100 high school students will take part in the program. They will be staying in the residence halls and attending sessions across campus.

At the Texas Star Great Debate, students go through a journey to develop their language skills and word management while working together and creating connections with both their teammates and coaches. It is a high energy program. You will likely hear the students as they make their way around campus. Please have patience with the extra noise and greet the students as you meet them on campus.

OLLU hosts EducationUSA

OLLU recently hosted advisers from EducationUSA, which promotes the diversity of U.S. higher education to help international students find their best fit. Advisers from Austria, Brazil, Guatemala and Vietnam spent last week on campus and met with representatives from OLLU and other local colleges and universities.

President Abel Chávez, MBA, PhD, hosted a reception for the advisers in Main Building, Room 220, where they learned about OLLU’s mission and its commitment to international students.

The visit gave OLLU much needed exposure in overseas markets, helping the university build relationships with international advisers that could develop into virtual fairs and future exchanges.
