Larry Ynman, director of the OLLU TRiO Program, recently participated in the U.S. Council on Opportunities in Education Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C. While there, he met with congressional representatives TX-20 and TX-35, districts in which OLLU is located and represented in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also met with Rep. Gwen Moore of Wisconsin, who chairs the TRiO Caucus in the United States Congress and was able to discuss important matters of relevance related not only to OLLU TRiO students, but TRiO students nationwide.

The annual Health and Wellness Fair is April 1, 2015, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in Chapel Auditorium.

During the fair, participants will be able to receive screenings for blood pressure, vision, glucose, body mass index (BMI), and strength testing. Attendees can also get information on fitness, wellness, nutrition, financial health and work/life balance.

Kara Larkan-Skinner was elected to serve as Member at Large to the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). The Member at Large serves on the Board of Directors for AIR. The Association for Institutional Research is the world’s largest professional association for institutional researchers. The organization provides educational resources, best practices and professional development opportunities for more than 4,000 members from across 40 different countries.

The University Police and Staff Advisory Council are sponsoring emergency situation training on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Thiry Auditorium. The training will cover what one should do during and after a possible shooting, what to expect from law enforcement and building coordinator responsibilities. This is a University sponsored event, so offices are allowed to close in order for staff to attend.

• 1895 Commemorative Award for Faculty Excellence
• Agnes M. Gloyna Award for Technological Innovation in Teaching and Learning.

The nomination form is on the Academic Affairs portal page. Nominations are due by Friday, March 20, 2015.

Award recipients will be announced at the faculty and staff appreciation dinner in May.

The Human Resources Office is hosting a Nutrition 101 seminar on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room. The seminar will cover basic nutrition components such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins as well as learning how to build a plate and the importance of hydration.

Full-time faculty members are encouraged to submit proposals for the 2015 Seed Grant Program. The purpose of the program is to assist OLLU faculty prepare highly competitive research and training proposals for external funding.

Proposals are limited to a maximum of four pages narrative, a budget and copies of the CVs of the key personnel. For 2015, there will be a maximum of three awards of up to $2,500 each.
