Members of the media covering the 2014 NBA Finals in San Antonio and OLLU alumni took part in an informal basketball game at Mabee Gym on Saturday. Michael Thompson, OLLU play-by-play announcer, announced the game, while OLLU Club Basketball Manager Alejandro Ramirez ran the scoreboard for the games. More than 30 members of the media, mostly bloggers and online writers, as well as Miami broadcasters, attended. Luke Bonner, brother of San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner, along with OLLU alumnus Jesse Blanchard (BA 2006) organized the game.

More than 60 men attend tryouts for OLLU’s inaugural baseball team
Last Wednesday, OLLU conducted its third tryout for the inaugural men’s baseball team that will begin competing in spring 2015. Approximately 30 interested high school and college men attended each of the first two tryouts held in March. At last week’s event, more than 60 men attended the tryouts at the Missions Baseball Academy. Coach Freddy Rodriguez said, “I am extremely happy with the turnout. There were 64 players who attended, about 40 were from the local area, and 20-plus were from out of town. This proves that there is a huge interest in bringing intercollegiate baseball to the West Side of San Antonio. There is definitely a lot of talent out there, and it’s exciting to see so many young men who are eager and enthusiastic to join our family at OLLU.” Read full article online.
OLLU baseball signs Stephen Garcia from Clear Creek in League City, Texas
OLLU announced the signing of Stephen Garcia to the inaugural men’s baseball team that will begin competing in the spring of 2015. He is a native of Los Angeles, Calif., and a graduate of Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas. He will start at OLLU in the fall of 2014. Head Coach Freddy Rodriguez said, “We are excited to sign Stephen today. He is an excellent infield defender and a left-handed batter with good speed and an overall feel for the game. He is what we are looking for in our baseball program both with his excellent academics and his athletic ability.” Read full article online.
OLLU’s Jack Hank presented with Athletic Director of the Year award during NACDA convention
Jack Hank received the 2013-2014 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics/Other Four-Year Institutions Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year last Wednesday at the James L. Corbett Awards Luncheon. The award ceremony was held during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) 49th Annual Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla. Soccer teams to hold summer league for high school boys and girls
The soccer teams are holding their annual summer league for high school boys and girls. Nine boy’s teams are participating, while 13 girl’s teams are signed up. The summer league for boys continues tomorrow, June 24, July 10, July 15, July 22, July 29 and July 31. The girl’s league begins today and continues on Wednesday, June 23, June 25, June 30, July 9, July 14, July 16, July 21, July 23, July 28 and July 30. Schools participating include Burbank, Edison, Harlandale, Highlands (2), Medina Valley, Memorial, Sam Houston and Southwest on the boy’s side and Brackenridge, Brennan (2), Harlandale (2), Highlands, Holmes, Kennedy, Lanier, Memorial, Pleasanton, South San, Southwest and Warren on the girl’s side. Volleyball camp begins today
The OLLU volleyball team begins its annual summer camp for beginners and intermediate players today. The camp continues through Friday, while the second camp takes place July 28-Aug. 1. The camp on Monday-Thursday is from 9-11 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.-noon and again from 12-2 p.m. On Friday, the camp runs from 9-11:30 a.m. Admission is $160, or $140 if the camper brings a friend, sibling or teammate. OLLU community invited to attend Education Field Experience presentations
The OLLU Education program is hosting presentations by the Education Field Experience candidates.
All presentations will take place from 10-11 a.m. in Main Building, Room 311. The presentation dates are as follows:

Lake Day welcomes 118 new freshmen
The first Lake Day for freshman advising and registration took place Saturday and a record 118 new freshmen took part in the event. The incoming students and their families were welcomed by Sister Jane Ann Slater, attended advising sessions, met with faculty, registered and completed financial aid and business office arrangements.
Lake Days will continue throughout June and July on the following dates:

July 18 for transfer students only
July 25
