The Alliance is offering two $500 scholarships for the spring 2015 semester. Criteria for the scholarship include the following:

• Must be enrolled or accepted at OLLU
• Do not have to identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer/questioning, (LGBTQ) to apply, but must be committed to serving the LGBTQ community as well as intersecting communities

The deadline to apply for the Alliance Scholarship is Wednesday by 5 p.m.

To request an application, email the Alliance at alliance@ollusa.edu. The application is also located on the Alliance bulletin board in the Worden School of Social Service.

Michael (Mike) Clark and Michael Wingle, undergraduate Computer Information Systems and Security (CISS) majors, were selected to receive scholarships from the Alamo chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).  Alamo AFCEA’s scholarships and grants committee allocated $10,000 toward scholarships for OLLU CISS students this year. The scholarships were awarded through a competitive process.

OLLU Criminal Justice students won first place in the Southwestern Association of Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation Competition. Team members are Lizbeth Parra, Kendra Jowers, Danielle Ledesma, Destiny Robles, Santos Alonzo, and Megan Dawson.

The OLLU Alumni Office is hosting a student pancake breakfast on Oct. 22 from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
at the Elliott House. The breakfast will raise money for student scholarships. The menu includes pancakes, juice, and coffee.

There is a $2 minimum donation to attend. All proceeds will go to The Lake Fund.

For students who have not ordered their caps, gowns or rings for fall graduation, Texas Recognition will be on campus Wednesday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in Casa Caritas to take orders.

There will be a mandatory TEACH session for students who plan to begin teacher education in spring 2015. The session will take place Thursday from 12:30-1:15 p.m. in Main Building, Room 311. Education department faculty will be present to answer questions.

Cesar Rodriguez, OLLU student and president of Delta Mu Delta (DMD) International Honor Society in Business, was selected to receive a DMD Board Award. The award is presented each year to outstanding business students.

Students are invited to a free dining etiquette workshop, Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. Students who wish to attend should register using ConnectOLLU by Tuesday.

OLLU students are invited to attend “Living in the Hyphen,” Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room. This event will explore what it is like being part of two worlds. Contact SGA at sga@ollusa.edu for more information. Click on the flyer for more information.

The OLLU community is invited to attend “Sex Signals,” Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Thiry Auditorium. This event is a sexual assault awareness program. The event uses comedy to address some of the topics. Topics include dating, sex and the issue of consent.

This is a HALO certified event and all students who attend will receive HALO credit.
