Vice Presidential Debate watch party set for Tuesday

Students, faculty and staff are invited to a Vice Presidential Debate watch party on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Library Community Room. There will be a brief discussion following the debate.

Attendees will have the opportunity to register to vote. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism, Law and Politics Society, Student Government Association, the Alliance, and MOVE Texas.

Volunteers needed for CDP Bingo on Nov. 8

The Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism, the Center for Student Involvement, and Mission and Ministry invite you to volunteer to help put on Bingo for our founders, the Congregation of Divine Providence.

CDP Bing will be held Nov.  8 at 2 p.m. in the Elliott House and will end at 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers will meet at the Elliott House at 1:45 p.m. and walk to the Convent. To  volunteer, email vuc@ollusa.edu

Five students receive President’s Volunteer Service Award

The OLLU Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism (CSLV) is pleased to announce that the President’s Volunteer Service Award has been awarded to five students who completed at least 100 hours of community service within the 2021-2022 academic school year.

The purpose of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a White House initiative, is to motivate Americans to reach out to their community and dedicate their time to transforming society into a more stable environment.

The following recipients have earned the award in the 2021-2022 academic year:

  • Elia Cervantes has earned the bronze award for the 2021-2022 academic school year. So far, she has completed 230.50 hours of community service as an undergraduate at OLLU. She is scheduled to graduate in December 2022 with a bachelor’s in Psychology.
  • Junior Communication Science and Disorders major Mayra Cabrera has earned the bronze award for the 2021-2022 academic school year. So far, she has completed 149.25 hours of community service as an undergraduate at OLLU.
  • Jessica Garcia has earned the bronze award for the 2021-2022 academic school year. So far, she has completed 202.75 hours of community service as an undergraduate at OLLU. She is scheduled to graduate in December 2022 with a bachelor’s in Psychology.
  • Doctoral student Lydia Hamner (MS 2019) has earned her fourth award. She won her first in 2017-2018, her second in 2019-2020, her third in 2020-2021 and her fourth in 2021-2022. She has completed 661 hours of community service as an OLLU graduate student and has a master’s in Organizational Leadership. She is scheduled to graduate in May 2023 with a PhD in Leadership Studies.
  • Alumna Samantha Vasquez has earned the bronze award for the 2021-2022 academic school year. She completed 144.25 hours of community service as an undergraduate at OLLU. She graduated in May 2022 with a bachelor’s in Biology.

Winners of President’s Volunteer Service Award announced

The Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism (CSLV) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020-21 President’s Volunteer Service Award:

MBA student Michael Garcia (2018) has won his seventh consecutive award. He has won an award each year from 2014-2015 through 2020-2021. Garcia has won six bronze medals and one gold medal and has completed 909 community service hours as an OLLU student. He is scheduled to graduate in December 2022.

Doctoral student Lydia Hamner (MS 2019) has won her third award. She won her first in 2017-2018, her second in 2019-2020 and her third in 2020-2021. She has completed 491.75 community service hours as an OLLU graduate student and has a master’s in Organizational Leadership. Hamner is scheduled to graduate in December 2022 with a PhD in Leadership Studies. 

Accounting major Jesus Rodriguez has won his second award for the school years 2019-2021. He has completed 395.50 hours of community service as an undergraduate at OLLU. Rodriguez is scheduled to graduate in May 2022 with a bachelor’s in accounting.
