Great turnout for annual Halloween Social and Costume Contest

Staff Assembly offers thanks to everyone who attended the annual Halloween Social and Costume Contest on Oct. 31. Special thanks is offered to the incredible volunteers of leaders from the staff relations committee who either donated, decorated, and stayed to clean up. It was a great turn out and the participation in the costume contest was filled with thrills.

This year’s winners were:

  • Scariest: Norma Jean Aldred who honored Dia De Los Muertos
  • Original: Karen D’Armata with her thundercloud ensemble
  • Funniest: The Progressive group of Professor Kelly Roberts-Cooper, Dr. Johnny Phelps, and Denise Caravello

The best costume group winner was the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) group. Dr. Randy Townley, Victoria Aguilar, Cindy Mata-Vasquez, Rosa Arce, Amy Peña, and Eduardo Marquez portrayed the Inside Out characters of fear, disgust, joy, anger, anxiety and embarrassment. Categories of scariest, original, and funniest received a trophy, a Halloween bucket of treats and a $25 gift card, The RGV winners for best group costume will receive a trophy, treats, and $50 from Staff Assembly for a pizza party.

hOLLUween Bash set for Friday

Enjoy Halloween the Saints way with games, treats and activities at the hOLLUween Bash at 6 p.m. Friday on the front lawn of the University Wellness and Activities Center.

Presented by OLLU’s Texas Association of Future Educators, Residence Life and the Center for Student Involvement, the hOLLUween Bash will be two hours of fun for youth and people of all ages.

Parking information

The Providence/24th Street entrance will close at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Anyone parked in lots B, C, D1, D2 and Convent may exit through the South Gate by the Grotto. 

Ghosts and goblins to descend on campus Thursday for annual Boo Bash

BooBash1Area children will be on campus Thursday for the annual Boo Bash celebration. Residence Life hosts the event to create a safe Halloween event for neighborhood children who are invited to trick-or-treat in the residence halls. There is still time to donate candy for the event. Donation boxes are available throughout campus.
