Men’s soccer team loses second straight road game

MenSoccer9-8-14The men’s soccer team lost to Wayland Baptist University (WBU) 4-1 on Sept. 6. The Saints lost to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Sept. 5. OLLU took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when sophomore Nickolas Tyrpak found a loose ball in front of goal and put it in the back of the net. The Saints were unable to hold on to the lead and WBU found an equalizer in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot. The game remained at 1-1 until the 67th minute when WBU’s Juan Sanchez made it 2-1. The Pioneers added two more goals in the 77th and 90th minute for the final score of 4-1. The Saints will now travel to Prescott, Arizona to take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Sept. 12. Men’s soccer adds four international players for 2014 season

International2-8-25-14The 2014 men’s soccer recruiting class includes some dynamic personnel changes according to Head Coach Shane Hurley. For 2014 Hurley has recruited four international players he hopes will strengthen the roster significantly. The four new players are junior midfielder Sebastian Luehr from Flensburg, Germany; junior forward Max O’Shea from St. Albans, England; freshman defender Elias Tamburini from Helsinki, Finland; and freshman goalkeeper Akseli Eklund from Joensuu, Finland. Men’s soccer suffers first loss of season over the weekend

The men’s soccer team won one and lost one on the road this past weekend. On Friday, the Saints triumphed over former Red River Athletic Conference member Southwestern Assemblies of God University 3-1. On Saturday, OLLU suffered its first loss of the season to Oklahoma City University by the score of 5-2. The Saints are now 6-1 overall, while SAGU drops to 3-4 and OCU improves to 3-3.  Both SAGU and OCU are members of the Sooner Athletic Conference in the NAIA. Read more online.

Luis Flores received conference honors last week

Luis Flores corralled the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 9-15. Flores, a senior defender from Brownsville, Texas, spearheaded an effort that led to a pair of shutouts for the Saints last week. His leadership helped OLLU limit Concordia University (Texas) to only two shots on goal and prevented Howard Payne University (Texas) from taking a shot in a 2-0 difference.
