Four from OLLU Men’s Soccer earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition

Four members of the OLLU men’s soccer team have earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition, each of whom carry a cumulative 3.5 grade point average or higher.

They are:

Junior Matthew Banda, a Computer Information Systems and Security major, has been part of the team since 2021. He played in 16 games, 15 as a starter. He took three shots, two on goal. He earned a 3.80 GPA.

Sophomore Cristian Govea Mireles, a Business Management major, has been part of the team since 2022. He played in 14 games. He scored one goal, and he two eight shots, five on goal. He earned a 3.50 GPA.

Sophomore Cade Ryan, a Finance major, has been part of the team since 2022. He played in 12 games this season, seven as a starter. He scored two goals, and he took 10 shots, five on goal. He earned a 3.57 GPA.

Sophomore Stephen Volpe, a Marketing major, has been part of the team since 2022. He played in 12 games, three as a starter. He had two assists, and he took eight shots, five on goal. He marked a 3.58 GPA.

Lewis, Ramirez and Sanchez selected as NAIA Scholar-Athletes

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2023 Daktronics NAIA Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete today. Selected from OLLU are Cormia Lewis, Lorena Ramirez and Angeline Sanchez.

The 2023 list features student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by the institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.

Lewis earned a 3.57 GPA, Ramirez marked a 3.51 and Sanchez had a 3.62.
