Six basketball players earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition

Six OLLU basketball players – four men and two women – have been named 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. To be recognized, athletes must carry a cumulative 3.5 grade point average or higher.

From the men’s team, Daniel Helterhoff and Paul Minjoth both earned a 4.0. Kyonte Holder marked a 3.97 and Xavier Purnell earned a 3.66. 

Cormia Lewis and Lorena Ramirez also earned Scholar-Athlete recognition. Ramirez carried a 4.0, Lewis a 3.64.

Lewis, Ramirez and Sanchez selected as NAIA Scholar-Athletes

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2023 Daktronics NAIA Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete today. Selected from OLLU are Cormia Lewis, Lorena Ramirez and Angeline Sanchez.

The 2023 list features student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by the institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.

Lewis earned a 3.57 GPA, Ramirez marked a 3.51 and Sanchez had a 3.62.
