Six basketball players earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition

Six OLLU basketball players – four men and two women – have been named 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. To be recognized, athletes must carry a cumulative 3.5 grade point average or higher.

From the men’s team, Daniel Helterhoff and Paul Minjoth both earned a 4.0. Kyonte Holder marked a 3.97 and Xavier Purnell earned a 3.66. 

Cormia Lewis and Lorena Ramirez also earned Scholar-Athlete recognition. Ramirez carried a 4.0, Lewis a 3.64.

Men’s basketball falls to Texas College

The men’s basketball team fell short against Texas College (TC) 81-72 on Jan. 25. The Saints move to 8-11 overall and 5-8 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Steers improve to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play. 

Paul Minjoth led the Saints with 20 points. Daniel Helterhoff grabbed seven rebounds for OLLU. Rob Gil tallied four assists.

Men’s basketball falls to Louisiana Christian University

The OLLU men’s basketball team fell to Louisiana Christian University (LCU) 76-65 on Saturday afternoon. The Saints drop to 7-10 overall and 4-7 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Wildcats jump to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in conference.

Paul Minjoth led the Saints with 17 points. Rob Gil grabbed eight rebounds for OLLU. Gil also tallied eight assists.
