Men’s cross-country places second in Billy Libby Invitational

CCMen9-8-14-2The men’s cross-country team came in second place at the Fifth Annual Bill Libby Invitational sponsored by McMurry University. Freshman Gabriel Ellman came in eighth, while sophomore Jonathan Yanez followed in 10th place. Head Coach Stephen Sherman said, “I feel much better about the men’s performance than that of a week ago,” said Sherman. “They ran settled and with some savvy. Gabe was able to put together the type of race we need from him, and Jon continues to be a rock. Sam (Sammy Bonilla) is also continuing to gain my trust as a competitor with his performance. Josh, Luis (Garza) and Xavi (Xavier Jimenez) had a good day too. Just like with the women it was a solid TEAM effort.”  Read full article online.

Jonathan Yanez places sixth in Austin Half-Marathon

2013Jonathan Yanez6OLLU cross-country runner Jonathan Yanez ran the Austin Half-Marathon on Feb. 16 and he finished in sixth place overall. Yanez ran the marathon in attempt to qualify for the NAIA Marathon that is hosted at the NAIA Track Meet in May. Yanez hit a “B” Standard for qualifying for the marathon. His sixth place finish was among 3,944 runners from all over the world. Yanez’s time of 1:12:57.00 ranks 24th in the entire NAIA for the half marathon. He is the first individual at OLLU to hit a qualifying standard for any event at the NAIA Track Meet. Read full story online.
