OLLU freshman distance runner Sanai Robinson broke the school record in the 800m at the FasTrak Athletix Indoor Collegiate Challenge in Houston on Feb. 3.
Robinson clocked in at 2:21.84 and finished fifth in her race.
Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “A lot of people got to make their indoor debut. I’m thrilled with the depth of our team right now. It’s bittersweet watching the DMR basically match our school record but not qualify for nationals. Sanai’s school record is definitely a good sign for things to come from her as well.”
The OLLU women’s cross-country team took 35th place out of 36 teams in the 68th Annual NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship at Fort Vancouver Historical Course on Nov. 17.
The Saints completed the race with a team score of 880 points in the 6k with a total time of 2:07.40 and an average of 25:32. Sanai Robinson was the Saints’ top finisher with a 63rd place finish of 331 runners.
The OLLU women’s cross-country team won its ninth Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Cross-Country Championships on Nov. 3 at Texarkana, Texas.
Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “This is by far the best team I’ve ever coached. There’s always someone having a breakout race or stepping up when someone is falling behind. I’m hoping if in two weeks we’re at full health, we can have our best team national finish of all time.”
The women’s team marked 22 points to win the 6K. The Saints were followed by Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) with 39 points and the University of the Southwest with 86 points.
Freshman Sanai Robinson captured her first Individual Medalist Award with a time of 22:59. Mia Curiel finished third with a time of 24:15. Viridiana Zuniga placed fifth with a time of 24:29, followed by Sierra Ramirez with a time of 24:30 for sixth place and Leilani Leza with a time of 24:31 for seventh place. All were named to the All-Conference team and will qualify for the 44th Annual NAIA Women’s Cross-Country National Championship on Nov. 17 in Vancouver, Wash.
Robinson also earned Freshmen of the Year honors, and Head Coach Patrick Torres received Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.
The OLLU women’s cross country team finished 12th out of 19 teams on Saturday at the Cowboy Jamboree, presented by Oklahoma State University.
Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “Overall, it was a quality team race. Sanai Robinson had another standout performance. This young group is showing a lot of promise.”
Robinson led the Saints in the 6K, finishing with a time of 24:00 for 59th place.
The OLLU women’s cross-country team finished 9th in the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) XC Invitational on Saturday.
Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “The transition to 6K is always kind of tough so watching our younger women perform well and our older women PR is definitely a great sign.”
The Saints placed ninth out of 11 teams in the 6K. Winning the meet was Rice University with 47 points, followed by Trinity University with 106 points, University of Texas at San Antonio with 114 points, Texas A&M University at Kingsville with 124 points, Texas State University with 127 points, Houston Christian University with 133 points, UIW with 144 points, University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley with 208 points and OLLU with 214 points. Following OLLU were El Paso Community College with 250 points and Texas A&M International University with 263 points.
