Reminder: United Way accepting applications for Child Care Scholarships

The United Way is accepting applications for Child Care Scholarships through Oct. 15, with recipients receiving an average award of $14,000 for Quality Child Care.

The annual cost of child care – which averages $9300 in Texas – is difficult for many San Antonio families to afford, often forcing parents to delay or cancel their higher education plans altogether. The scholarship removes this financial barrier to education. To learn more: https://www.uwsatx.org/blog/child-care-scholarships-open-oct15/

To apply for the scholarship:

OLLU will hold its annual Workplace Charitable Campaign for 2023, beginning Oct. 23. United Way representatives will share United Way program offerings at the Oct. 25 SAFE event in the University Mall.

Employees, students asked to help Build Literacy Kits with United Way

On Friday in Chapel Auditorium, OLLU employees and students will build 75 literacy kits for Pre-K and elementary aged students in Bexar County. Kits will benefit the children being served by the United Way Healthy Outcomes for Prevention and Early Support (HOPES) Program. Volunteers will help create the crafts for the kids or prepare the additional resources for the literacy kits.

This is one of various initiatives coordinated by the Center for Service-Learning & Volunteerism, and just one of the ways you can continue to learn more about United Way during our annual Employee Charitable Campaign.

Capacity is limited, so those interested must sign up in advance, which is on a first-come, first-served basis. All students, faculty, and staff are invited.

You can select one volunteer shift from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. using this link:

Service project questions can be directed to the Center for Service-Learning & Volunteerism at 210-431-3990 or CSLV@ollusa.edu.
