Veterans Day Observation Ceremony to be held on Friday 

U.S. Marine Chris Whittemore will be the featured speaker at the annual Veterans Day Observation Ceremony on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in the Mall Area.

Following the one-hour event, Whittemore will sign copies of his book, “Terror to Triumph,” a narrative of service, deployment and return.

A documentary film will be shown in Main Building, Room 311 at 2:30 p.m.: “Treviño – The Artist, The Man,” produced by former WOAI-TV anchor Randy Beamer.

Whittemore served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1995-1999 as an Infantry Machine Gunner for the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines and as a Texas State Trooper for five years.  As a result of the Global War on Terror, he felt called to return to service and re-enlisted into the Marine Corps and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in 29 Palms, California.

During his time in service, Wittemore earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology. After retiring, he worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency as the Evidence Custodian. He then moved to the veteran treatment court as a case manager and also worked for Bexar County as a military service officer, helping veterans and servicemen and women with their disability claims, ratings, and benefits. 

OLLU to host annual veterans day observation ceremony

OLLU will host its annual Veterans Day Observation Ceremony on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Mall Area. Air Force Technical Sergeant La ‘Tron Banks will give the featured address.

The ceremony also will include a blessing and refection by OLLU doctoral candidate Dennis Rucker, a Army veteran. There also will be a moment of silence and the playing of Taps in honor of deceased veterans. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Later in the day at 2:30 p.m., there will be an opening ceremony for the new Veterans Lounge located in Worden Building, Room 29. It will be followed by the screening of On Two Fronts: Latinos and Vietnam which will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Main Building, Room 311.
