Professor Winstead directing, serving as panelist during Sterling Houston Festival

Antoinette Winstead, MFA, professor of Drama and Mass Communication, will direct a play and serve as a panelist during the Sterling Houston Festival which will run June 4-19 at various locations around San Antonio.

Sterling Houston (1945-2006) was a beloved San Antonio playwright, actor, author and musician. The Sterling Houston Festival honors his life and legacy. Professor Winstead will direct a production of “Black Lily and White Lily,” one of Houston’s short plays examining racial and social inequities in the 1950s. The performance will take place June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Carver Community Cultural Center.

Professor Winstead also will serve as a panelist exploring the significance and impact of Houston and his body of work. It will take place June 9 at 7 p.m. at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.

Professor’s essay on Rwanda Genocide gets published

Antoinette Winstead, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Drama and Mass Communication, has completed a goal that began six years ago. Her essay, “Never Again! Documenting and Remembering the Rwanda Genocide (1994) on Film” has been published in the book, “War, Revolution and Remembrance in World Cinema.”
