Women’s golf wins first tournament in program history
The women’s golf team made history by taking first place in the Queen of the Hill Country Classic hosted by Schreiner University at The Buckhorn Country Club on Tuesday. The victory is the first tournament win for the women’s golf program.
Head Coach Arnie Martinez said, “I am so proud of these players. We have been working hard all semester and it’s great to see it formulate on the golf course. Everyone has things to work on and they know it, but the process of improving is what’s important.”
Martinez continued, “Ceci Lattuada (SO/Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico) played great by overcoming some obstacles late in day one. To see her come back on day two and fire the tournament low and win the tournament was impressive. Madelyn Miller (SO/Copperas Cove, Texas) followed with a great tournament score as well. We talk about the lifestyle it takes to be a champion on and off the course. These players are working as a unit to get better and live like a champion every day. I am grateful to coach these women. It’s the first win for the women’s program. Go Saints!”
OLLU was crowned champions with a total of 611. St. Thomas University was second at 621, followed by Concordia University Texas at 622 and Schreiner University at 704.
Saints sophomore Ceci Lattuada shot 146 at the tournament to take first place out of 25 participants. Lattuada shot 77 on day one and 69 on day two. Madelyn Miller followed in third place at 151 (77/74), Annabelle Reyna (FR/San Antonio, Texas) in fifth place at 155 (77/78), Christina Trujillo (SO/San Antonio, Texas) in 12th place at 162 (77/85), Miliani Georges (FR/San Antonio, Texas) in 14th place at 164 (82/82), Alexis Calzada (FR/Georgetown, Texas) in 18th place at 169 (86/83) and Alahnna Limones (FR/Converse, Texas) in 24th place at 185 (87/98).
