Men’s basketball loses battle to LSU-Shreveport to end regular season

MBB3-3-14The men’s basketball team played a great game to close out its regular season, but LSU-Shreveport pushed through to win 88-84. The Saints finish with a 14-4 Red River Athletic Conference record and 20-10 overall, while the Pilots move to 16-2 in conference and 21-7 overall. The Pilots are the conference regular season champions and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament that begins next week. The Saints will be the No. 3 seed, and they will host No. 6 Bacone (8-10/12-18) on Wednesday, March 5. No. 5 Langston University (9-9/11-15) will host No. 4 Wiley (13-5/22-6). The winner of the lowest remaining seed will play LSU-Shreveport on March 7, while No. 2 University of St. Thomas will play the highest remaining seed. The championship game will take place on March 8 at 4:30 p.m. Both Friday and Saturday games will take place at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. All Saints’ game will be live streamed. The Pilots shot 50 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the free-throw line. Prior to the game, seniors DJ Castro, Mike Willie, Xavier Roberson and Marcus Thompson were honored for playing their last regular season home games.
