Women’s basketball falls short against The Master’s University
The women’s basketball team made a furious rally in the final three minutes of its opening round matchup in the NAIA National Championship Tournament, cutting a 12-point deficit to three, but fell short 83-85 to The Master’s University (TMU) Mustangs. In a battle between the Saints’ high-paced volume scoring and the Mustangs’ efficiency, a clutch turnaround jumper from TMU’s Bianca Cubello with 17 seconds remaining proved to be the dagger that ended OLLU’s season, leaving the Saints with a 24-9 record.
Two men’s track and field athletes break school records at the UIW Quadrangle
The men’s track and field team participated in the two-day UIW Quadrangle sponsored by the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). In the first day of the event, Alex Sattley set a new OLLU record in the long jump with a leap of 6.56 meters and finished third. Long jumper Jose Lima came in sixth place with a mark of 5.71m. In the hurdle events, Ricky Ramos placed third in the 110m with a time of 15.86. His time in the 400m hurdles was 55.76 for second place. Both of these times are OLLU records.
Women’s track and field’s Culliver, Ramirez and Oslund set OLLU records at UIW Quadrangle
The women’s track and field team participated in the two-day UIW Quadrangle sponsored by the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). In the first day of the event, OLLU’s Aundrea Culliver, Shenaya Thomas and Samantha Millan competed in the long jump. Culliver came in sixth place with a mark of 5.03m — a new OLLU record. Thomas followed at 4.72.m and Millan at 4.10m. Also on the first day, long-distance runners were on the schedule. In the 1500m, Elena Oslund finished in eighth place with a time of 4:54.95; her time is an OLLU record. On the second day, Jennifer Ramirez qualified for the NAIA National Track and Field Championship Meet with her times in the hurdles. For the 100m hurdles, her time was 14.64 for second place, while Miki Romain’s time was 15.14 for third place. Ramirez won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.01. Thomas placed third with a time of 1:11.81, followed by Romain with a time of 1:18.61 for fourth place. Both of Ramirez’s times are new OLLU records
Social Justice Reading Series to feature Matthew Salesses
OLLU’s MA/MFA program in Literature, Creative Writing and Social Justice welcomes author Matthew Salesses as part of the “Social Justice Reading Series,” Thursday, March 30, at 7 p.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room.
Salesses has written about race, adoption and family for the “New York Times Motherlode” blog, “The Good Men Project,” “The Rumpus,” “Hyphen Magazine,” and elsewhere. He is the author of “I’m Not Saying, I’m Just Saying” and “The Hundred-Year Flood.” Salesses will read from his new novel.
The reading is free and open to the public.

Participate in ‘40 Days of Service’ with Catholic Charities and the Archdiocese

OLLU is participating in the Catholic Charities’ second annual “40 Days of Service” campaign, along with the Archdiocese of San Antonio and other Catholic Schools in the city. At the kick-off event, Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S, offered a blessing to all participants and asked all to serve the community with love throughout the Lenten season.
Those interested in volunteer opportunities connected to Catholic Charities should visit www.40daysofservice.com to sign up. These opportunities are open to faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and family members.
OLLU students should remember to visit the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism to learn how they can track service hours or find other ways to serve the community.

Deadline to apply for fall 2017 graduation is April 7
Students who plan to participate in the December 2017 graduation must apply for graduation by Friday, April 7, 2017. Students must apply online through WebAdvisor.
Make-up training class for the new payroll time entry
Supervisors and hourly employees who did not sign up or missed a training session for OLLU’s new time-keeping system will be able to attend a make-up session.

OLLU will be transitioning to a new time-keeping system beginning April 1. All hourly employees, including student employees, will transition to a web-based system that will be available on the myOLLU portal. All employees currently using the Stromberg timeclock terminals to punch in and out, and supervisors who approve timecards, will be affected by this change.
Hourly employees who attended the training as part of supervisor duties do not have to attend another training session.
Softball continues series today against LSU-Alexandria
The softball team struggled through two games yesterday against the NAIA’s No. 22 team, Louisiana State University-Alexandria. The Saints fell behind in the first game 2-0, but Taylor Doege tied the score in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer. The Generals came back in the top of the seventh to score two runs to win 4-2. In the second game, the Generals took total control, winning 8-0 in six innings. The teams will continue their series today at 11 a.m. at the OLLU Softball Field.
Men’s golf receives No. 12 ranking in NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll
The men’s golf team improved from No. 16 to No. 12 in the third regular-season NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Friday. The No. 12 ranking for the Saints is their best since the 2012-2013 season, when the team earned a No. 7 ranking. Golfstats, the official source for college golf scores and statistics, OLLU ranks 11th in the NAIA. The Saints are the only Red River Athletic Conference team in the poll this week.
