Professor Khan presents at international conference
Hamid Khan, EdD, PE, professor of management, had his paper, “Improvisation in educational delivery using system simulation and project management software for compressed, on demand, online (COOL) courses,” published in “Competition Forum,” a peer-reviewed journal of the American Society for Competitiveness (ASC).
He presented his paper during the session, “Practical perspectives on improving higher education standards,” during ASC’s annual conference.
During the conference, Khan served as a paper reviewer and chair of two technical sessions, “Innovations in knowledge based economy,” and “Public policy and geographical games.” He also served as discussant of presented papers of the session, “Higher education and human capital formation.”
Employees give back during ‘Employee Service Day’
During the fall break, 18 faculty and staff members participated in a volunteer project as part of OLLU Employee Service Day. Employees served at Seton Home, a local nonprofit organization that provides a range of support services to pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children. Volunteers helped turn mulch in the gardens and playgrounds, power washed the sidewalk, painted part of a mural on a fence, and sorted donations.

Join in the food and fun during OLLU’s second annual Fall Fest
The OLLU and San Antonio communities are invited to attend OLLU’s second annual Fall Fest, Saturday from 7-10 p.m. in the Mall Area as part of Alumni Weekend. The festival will include food, drinks and entertainment by Diego Navaira from “The Voice,” Emilio Navaira Jr. and their band Ready Revolution.

Jeff Stafford will deliver the presentation, “Slice of Leadership,” Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in Providence Hall, Blue Room. During this interactive event, Stafford will help students discover their place in the world without hesitations.

Professor Khan represents presents at international conference
Hamid Khan, EdD, PE professor of management, presented two peer reviewed papers at the International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines (IABPAD) conference held in Las Vegas, “Teaching effectiveness research using teacher behavior factors: exploratory factor analysis,” and “Teaching the legacy of authentic leadership in the ethics classroom: Transferring affective learning into behavior.”
In addition to the presentations, he was the chair and moderator of two sessions on management, marketing and international business.
He was also a discussant of technical papers presented at a session on education, learning outcomes, curriculum and students.
He was presented with certificates of professional services rendered to the Academy on chairing technical sessions, reviewing submitted papers for acceptance, and critiquing as discussant, the presentations of the accepted papers.
Women’s soccer set for conference semifinals

The women’s soccer team is set for the conference semifinals that take place Friday at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. The Saints, the No. 1-seed in the conference, will play No. 4-seed Southwest at 12:30 p.m. No. 2 Brownsville will play No. 3 Huston-Tillotson University at 3 p.m. The winners of both games will advance to the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m.
The Saints finished the regular season as the conference champions with a 6-0 record and 14-2-1 overall. Last week, they improved to No. 19 from No. 21 in the 2013 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
OLLU to host Veterans Day ceremony next week
OLLU will host a Veterans Day ceremony next Monday from 12:30-1:15 p.m. in the Mall Area. All student, faculty and staff veterans will be recognized during the event. Eric Alva, retired Marine Staff Sergeant, OLLU alumnus and civil rights activist will deliver the keynote address. Alva was the first American service member injured in the Iraq War. The event will also include a blessing of veterans, a presentation on the Fisher House, and the Armed Forces Medley. Refreshments will be served following the event.
Ceara O’Donnell selected as conference ‘Runner of the Week’

Ceara O’Donnell was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the dates of Oct. 21-27. O’Donnell, a freshman from Corpus Christi, Texas, posted a time of 19:53 on the 5K course at the Mid-States Classic on Saturday. She set an OLLU record for her time and has been entered into the University’s Halo Club for Cross-Country for running the 5K in under 20 minutes. She placed 77th in a field of 162 competitors and guided the OLLU team to its best finish in three years at the event. The cross-country teams will prepare for the conference tournament that takes place this weekend in Marshall, Texas. Read more online.
