Three female track and field athletes earn All-Academic honors

Three members of the OLLU women’s Track and Field team received 2024 U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches’ Association Academic Awards for their performance in the classroom. Aziza Clark, Madison Perez and Victoria Sweeney are OLLU’s representatives.

Clark qualified for the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay at the NAIA Outdoor Championships. In addition, she qualified for the 60m hurdles at the NAIA Indoor Championships. Clark earned a 3.43 GPA. Perez qualified for the 800m in the NAIA Outdoor Championships. She earned a 3.61 GPA. Sweeney earned a 3.55 GPA. 

Women’s track sets four school records at Charles Austin Classic

The OLLU women’s track and field team set four records this past weekend at the Charles Austin Classic at Texas State University.

On Friday, Victoria Sweeney broke the record in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.21. Kristen Torres‘ time in the 1500m is a record setting 4:48.99. On Saturday, Madison Perez broke the 800m record with a time of 2:16.42. The 4x100m relay team consisting of Larrisa McHenry, JaDae Freeman, Kamdyn Burgess and Madison Walker set the record with a time of 47.42. They also marked a National “B” Standard.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We got a qualifier in the relay and had some outstanding PRs. I’m very excited for where this squad is coming into the Texas Relays. This is far and away the best group we’ve had at OLLU.”

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field opens season at Trinity Invitational

The OLLU Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Team opened its 2024 season this past weekend at the Trinity Invitational.

Several Saints placed in the top five of their events. They include first-place Madison Perez in the 800m with an OLLU Outdoor Record time, second-place Mia Francis in the high jump with an OLLU Outdoor Record mark, third-place Larrisa McHenry in the 100m and fourth-place Leah Chanette in the high jump.   

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “It was an outstanding opener and our athletes are clearly poised to run a fantastic outdoor season. I’m excited for this spring and seeing records fall this early is a great sign of things to come.” 

Women’s indoor track opens season with new records

The OLLU women’s indoor track and field team set three school records on Dec. 9 when it opened the 2023-2024 season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational in Kansas, sponsored by Pittsburg State University. The event was held at the Robert W. Plaster Center – Harvey Dean Track.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “This was by far the best opener we’ve had as a team. Some mistakes were made but knowing what to fix gives us every opportunity to do even better next semester. That being said, we set several records and showed depth we’ve never had before.

The new OLLU records were set by Victoria Urbanczyk in the shot put – 9.95m; by Leah Chanette in the high jump – 1.48m; and by Madison Perez in the 800 meters – 2:23.46.
