Men’s track and field qualifies for nationals in four events

The men’s track and field team performance at the University of Texas at San Antonio Invitational on March 15-16 included four events that qualify for nationals. The meet featured NCAA D1 schools from throughout the country.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “We had a lot of good things happen especially on the sprints and hurdles side. Our relay team Jayden in the 400m hurdles and Jalen in the 100m and 200m qualified for nationals in very convincing fashion. It was just an overall good early season meet.”

The men’s 4x100m relay team consisting of Spencer WilliamsJesus Riefkohl DelgadoJimmie Salas and Jalen Bell placed second and qualified for nationals with a time of 40.95.

Jayden Erikewe placed fourth in the 400m hurdles and qualified for nationals with a time of 54.13.

Jalen Bell‘s 100m time was 10.55 for second place and 200m time was 21.27 for third place to qualify him for nationals. His 200m time is an OLLU record.

Men’s track and field breaks school records, qualifies for nationals

Members of the men’s track and field team participated in the University of Texas Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and the Texas State University Bobcat Invitational 2023 this past weekend.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, “This was a huge weekend for our men’s team. We secured two more individual “A” standards from Julian Verastegui and Jalen Bell. Another relay qualified for nationals with our 4x400m relay team. It was a very exciting weekend for OLLU track.”

Significant results include NAIA Nationals qualifications for the 4x400m relay team, who had a time of 3:14.30; Jalen Bell in the 100m with a time of 10.41; and Julian Verastegui in the 400m with a time of 48.09. All three were “A” standard marks.

Records broken were from the 4x100m relay team with a time of 40.61 and Jose Zarate in the 10000m with a time of 31:52.84.
