1098T now available online

The 1098T, also known as the “Tuition Payment Statement,” is now available for students online at http://www.1098T.com. The 1098T form is the information that colleges and universities are required to issue to students for the purpose of determining their eligibility for the Hope and Lifetime Learning education tax credits when filing their annual tax returns.

For those who elected to receive a paper copy of their 1098T, they will be printed and mailed by Jan. 31.

Any questions about the information contained in the 1098T form can be answered by calling the call center at 877-467-3821.

OLLU-The Woodlands students receive scholarship

Michelle Alvarez, Keri Margraves and Roderic Moses, students at the OLLU-The Woodlands campus, have been awarded a $250 scholarship by Lone Star College-University Center.

The students will be awarded their scholarships during the Presidential Scholars Dinner and Awards Ceremony at Lone Star College-Montgomery on March 24.

Employees can now access their W-2 online

OLLU employees will now have the ability to access their W-2 online on the myOLLU Portal. In order to access their W-2 online, employees must give their consent via the online form located within WebAdvisor under “Employee Profile.” The W-2 can be viewed and printed.

Employees who consent to access their W-2 online will not receive a paper copy next year. Employees can change their consent at any time.

OLLU to hold cheer clinic for children, ages 6-12

lil Saints Cheer clinic-02The Saints Cheer Team will hold the “Lil’ Saints Cheer Clinic” on Feb. 15 for children, ages 6-12 years old. After the morning-long clinic, the aspiring cheerleaders will have the opportunity to perform during halftime of the Saints men’s basketball game that begins at 7:30 p.m. Download Flyer and Registration Form here. The clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in OLLU’s University Wellness and Activities Center (UWAC). The fee per child is $35. OLLU men’s basketball defeats Bacone 105-93

MensBB2-3-2De’Quentin Greer scored a career-high 34 points to lead the men’s basketball team to a 105-93 win over Bacone College. The victory moves the Saints to 7-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 12-8 overall, while Bacone drops to 5-4 in the conference and 8-12 overall. Head Coach Ryan Wall commented, “DQ played very well, and didn’t miss very many shots. He played a key role in our win tonight.” Greer’s 34 points included 12-of-14 from the field and 10-of-11 free throws. He added seven rebounds and two assists. Xavier Roberson scored 30 points including 9-of-21 from the field, seven 3-pointers and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. The Saints shot 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line. They committed 15 turnovers while forcing 23 on Bacone. The Saints will play their next two games on the road. On Feb. 6, they will be in Hobbs, N.M. to play the University of the Southwest. Christopher Minner becomes most winningest coach in OLLU women’s basketball history

Minner3After Saturday’s 98-50 win for the women’s basketball team over Bacone College, Head Coach Christopher Minner became the winningest coach in OLLU women’s basketball history. His career 47 wins surpassed previous head coach Rusty Kennedy’s 46 wins over two seasons. Minner’s career losses are six, compared to 17 for Kennedy at OLLU. The victory moves the Saints to 8-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference and 17-2 overall, while Bacone drops to 2-7 in the conference and 5-11 overall. The Saints are ½ a game behind league-leader Wiley College (9-1/19-2), but are ranked in the NAIA higher than Wiley — No. 10 compared to No. 12 for the Lady Wildcats. Our bench played very hard, and I am glad we were able to get everyone on the court.”  Electra Roberts scored a season-high 20 points for the Saints including 9-of-14 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds. Nelly Flores scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Destiny Melton recorded her second double-double of the season after she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mercedes Dobson also scored 10 points. The Saints shot 41 percent from the field, 26 percent from 3-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line. They forced 30 turnovers, while committing 13. OLLU community invited to ‘Not For Sale II’ film screening

In observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, the Center for Women in Church and Society (CWCS) will be joining San Antonio Against Slavery for a screening of the documentary, “Not For Sale II,” Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Oblate School of Theology in the Whitley Theological Center, Room 104. The film tells the story of five modern day abolitionists who battle human trafficking across the globe.

OLLU students, faculty and staff who want to ride with the group from the CWCS should RSVP to kgibson@ollusa.edu by the end of today.

The vans will leave from the Elliott House at 6 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

OLLU will create first-ever 30-year digital archive of Segundo de Febrero

More than 30 years ago, two Our Lady of the Lake University students organized a commemoration of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. That commemoration, known as Segundo de Febrero, has been repeated every year in locations across the United States.

OLLU’s Center for Mexican American Studies and Research will recognize these efforts by establishing a digital archive that documents 30 years of commemorating Segundo de Febrero. The archive will be announced during a news conference on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. in Providence Hall, West Social Room.

President Sister Jane Ann Slater and Sister Maria Eva Flores of the Center for Mexican American Studies and Research will accept the digital records during the news conference.

A multimedia presentation and poetry reading will follow the press conference in Providence Hall, Blue Room.

‘Find the Power of Providence’ at retreat hosted by Sister Joyce Detzel, CDP

Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend, “Finding the Power of Providence in Your Everyday Life,” Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Elliott House. Sister Joyce Detzel, CDP, will lead the retreat.

For deeper engagement, participants are also invited to attend an optional overnight retreat at the convent for single Catholic women open to exploring the possibility of a call from God to respond to the power of Providence as a Sister of Divine Providence.
