Thursday is World Mental Health Day

OLLU’s Salud Center and Active Minds organization will mark World Mental Health Day on Thursday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Mall Area. The groups will share information on ways to tend to your mental wellbeing.

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing is working to make mental wellbeing a global priority. It is presenting 10 ways to take action. Visit the council’s website at: World Mental Health Day 2024 « Mental Health First Aid.

Fitness Field Day to be held on Thursday

The Kinesiology Program will hold its first Fitness Field Day on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. next to the soccer field.

Activities will include relay races, obstacle courses, and team challenges.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join the fun. Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or just looking to have some fun, there’s something for everyone! There also will be vendors showcasing fitness gear, healthy snacks, and wellness information.

How to Participate:

Mondays: Functional Training – 5:30 p.m. – UWAC Aerobics Room
Tuesdays: Walking Club – 7 a.m.—Meet at Library Circle
Wednesdays: Lift and Tone (Students Only) – 6 p.m. — UWAC Aerobics Room
Fridays: Mindful Movement (Faculty and Staff Only) – 12:30 p.m. – Online Via Teams

CDP Heritage Day to be held in Castroville on Sunday

The OLLU community is invited to attend the Congregation of Divine Providence’s 26th annual Heritage Day festival on Sunday at the Moye Retreat Center in Castroville from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. In addition to the highly anticipated quilt raffle, they will also have a silent auction and crafts sale.

Entertainment will be provided by Alsatian dancers and a DJ. BBQ chicken with Alsatian sausage lunch plates will be sold. Food Plate and Quilt Raffle tickets are available online at http://www.cdptexas.org/hd

All proceeds are used to preserve and grow Moye Retreat Center. Moye Retreat Center is the original motherhouse of the Congregation of Divine Providence in Texas and currently is a place for hosting retreats, renewal programs and other activities promoting personal and spiritual growth. It has been an integral part of life in Castroville and the surrounding communities since 1868.

OLLU preparing for Lake-O-Ween on Oct. 24

Javier Segovia Receives GADE Student Award for Leadership and Service

OLLU Social Work doctoral student Javier Segovia has been recognized by the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE) with the Student Award for Leadership and Service.

This annual award recognizes a doctoral student who has shown notable leadership and service to their school, university, and professional associations. Segovia’s contributions reflect a commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the social work profession. We recognize his leadership and dedication, both at Worden and within the community.

Theology/Philosophy students visit Hindu Temple

A group of OLLU students visited the Hindu Temple of San Antonio (HTSA) for a tour on Oct. 5. Professors Jacob Friesenhahn, Deirdre Anne Hendrick, and Chance Juliano accompanied the students. The students are currently enrolled in a Theology or Philosophy course and participated in the trip as an opportunity to learn more about Hindu thought and practice. Professor Maria Tobin (retired) joined the group as well. Professor Tobin initiated the longstanding relationship between OLLU and HTSA.

‘Walk with a Counselor’ takes place on Fridays in October

October is ‘Exercise is Medicine on Campus Month.’ In recognition, Counseling and Wellness Services will be hosting ‘Walk with a Therapist-Mindful Movement’ for faculty and staff every Friday in October. Join Counseling and Wellness for a 30-minute walk, focusing on mindfulness practice as we move our bodies.

Meet at 1 p.m. at the entrance to Walter Student Service Building (Metz side) to start the walk. Please wear comfortable shoes.
