Four OLLU students have been selected to receive the Consulate General of Mexico/San Antonio Scholarship. In order to apply for the scholarship, students had to have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must be Mexican or of Mexican Heritage.

The OLLU Houston Marriage and Family Therapy students and alumni attended the Houston Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (HAMFT) presentation on couples therapy.
The following students were inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Spanish Honor Society, during its spring 2017 induction ceremony:

The San Antonio Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Society recognized OLLU graduating senior Jose Gallardo as the SA CPA Society 2017 Outstanding Accounting Scholar at its recent meeting.
OLLU junior Joshua Velasco was selected as the society’s top scholarship recipient and received a $2,500 award.
“This is the most prestigious scholarship for accounting students among the nine local universities,” said OLLU Accounting Professor Kathryn Winney.
The scholarship is based on academic achievement, contribution to the field, and an essay on a topic designated by the society.
The San Antonio chapter of Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) – Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) awarded three scholarships during the association’s April meeting and the recipients were all OLLU students.
Francisco Hernandez earned the top James Herriot Memorial Scholarship and a $1,000 award. Janina Peterson and Vivek Joseph tied for the second-place award and received $750 each. The students are all Computer Information Systems and Security majors at OLLU.
OLLU graduate student Marisela Barerra will defend her thesis, “Ruby Reds, Big Birds, y Burras,” Friday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Community Room. The OLLU community is invited to attend.
OLLU is offering a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Exam Preparation course online during the summer. The GRE is the entrance exam to many graduate school programs and this course will teach test-taking skills to help students earn a higher score and strengthen their applications to graduate school.
The course is PSYC 5300 – GRE EXAM PREPARATION and can be taken as an elective course. The course will be offered during summer session III, which runs June 5 – Aug. 1.

This past weekend, the OLLU Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO) attended the Austin Area Association for Bilingual Education Conference. The group served as room monitors, guides and greeters. They also attended the conference sessions. The conference gave students an opportunity to gain additional insight into a bilingual classroom.
