Students from OLLU’s CISS program participated in the 22^nd Annual Association of Technology Professional (AITP) National Collegiate Conference. The conference provided students with the opportunity to compete in several contests as well as network with professionals from various companies from across the country.

Students competed in the following contests:

• Microsoft Office Solutions
• Systems Analysis and Design
• Database Design
• PC Troubleshooting
• Network Design
• Enterprise Systems
• Business Analytics
• Mobile Application Development
• Java Developer
• Security Challenge
• Chapter T-Shirt and Banner Design

Additionally, all 10 students who attempted the Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) Information System Analyst Certification exams passed and many of them mastered the tests. Students Janina Peterson and Vivek Joseph have the second and third best averages respectively among all students who took the exams.

Beginning today, OLLU students will be able to register for summer and fall courses. Summer and fall course schedules are available on WebAdvisor. Early registration runs online 7 a.m.-midnight, and in person (at the Registrar’s Office) 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The schedule for early registration is as follows:

• Today – Seniors, Master’s and Doctoral students
• Tuesday – Juniors, Seniors, Master’s and Doctoral students
• Wednesday – All currently enrolled students

Abstracts are now being accepted for the Second Annual McNair Scholars and Student Research Symposium. The symposium will take place on Thursday, April 20. Research work may be presented in oral or poster sessions. If interested, complete the online form at: www.ollusa.edu/StudentSymposium. The deadline to submit abstracts is Wednesday, April 12.

San Antonio Youth Literacy (SAYL) recently recognized Lisa Castle, a graduate student in the Communication and Learning Disorders (CDIS) program, as the Volunteer of the Month for March 2017. Lisa was first introduced to SAYL through a service-learning experience as part of a CDIS course. Through her service with SAYL, Lisa works with second grade students who are reading below their appropriate grade level. She meets with them once a week to read books and do fun literacy activities. The goal of the SAYL Reading Buddy program is to get elementary students to read at level with their peers, which ultimately improves school success and lowers dropout rates. The Division of Mission and Ministry invites graduating seniors to a special retreat, Friday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Room in the OLL Convent. Students will have time to interact with other graduates to discuss the next chapter in their lives. A special blessing will conclude the event. The Assistance League of San Antonio is offering $3,000 scholarships for current students, who will be entering their junior or senior year in fall 2017. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must:

• Be enrolled as a full time student (12 hours or more)
• Be entering his/her junior or senior year

To apply, students will need:

• A completed application – click here to download
• A biographical letter that includes personal information that the student chooses to share about his/her family, background, financial need and educational goals
• Proof of enrollment or letter of acceptance
• A minimum of three letters of recommendation – two from professors/administrators and one from other school personnel or employees
• Official undergraduate transcripts
• A copy of the current tax return

Psychology students attend conference in Austin
OLLU psychology students recently attended the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy conference in Austin where they made a poster presentation. During their time in Austin, students were also able to participate in “Day at the Dome” where they met with legislators to advocate for issues related to marriage and family therapy, and marriages, and families.

B.E.S.O. students present on bilingual education
OLLU’s Bilingual Education Student Organization (B.E.S.O.) attended the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE) conference in Dallas on February 22-25. During the conference, students were able to present as well as learn about recent immigration situations in classrooms nationwide. Students also participated in a volunteer opportunity while at the conference.
