News from the Financial Aid Office

2016-2017 scholarship application now available

The 2016-2017 OLLU Endowed Scholarship application is now available. Students can download the application from the myOLLU Portal on the Financial Aid page. Click on the “scholarships” tab and the form will be available. Applications can also be picked up from the Financial Aid Office, located in the Walter Student Service Center. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications must be turned in by May 2, 2016 at 5 p.m.

Summer 2016 financial aid application now available

Students planning to take classes during the summer should complete the application for summer financial aid. Students can download the application from the myOLLU Portal on the Financial Aid page. Click on the “forms” tab and the form will be available. Applications can also be picked up from the Financial Aid Office, located in the Walter Student Service Center. Applications must be turned in by June 1, 2016.

Psi Chi holds spring induction

Kevin_Rodriguez_Barragy_AwardPsi Chi, the Psychology Honor Society, held its spring induction last week. The organization inducted 28 undergraduate and graduate students. During the ceremony, Kevin Rodriguez (pictured right) was named the 2015-2016 Micheleen Barragy Outstanding Senior in Psychology.

Psi Chi is an international honor society that strives to produce well-educated, ethical and socially responsible members committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.

Student news from the Psychology department

Students from the psychology department have made several recent accomplishments. They include:

  • Denise Vasquez, a master’s student in the School Psychology program, was selected for the 2016-2017 American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program Services for Transition Age Youth (STAY) fellowship. The fellowship is designed for students master’s programs in psychology whose training prepares them to provide mental health services to transition age youth (ages 16-25) and their families.
  • Ashlee Martinez, a PsyD student, was selected for The Center for Deployment Psychology 2016 Summer Institute: Preparing for a Military-Focused Career. The summer institute is a five-day course for doctoral students in clinical or counseling psychology who anticipate applying for a military internship. The program strengthens trainees’ backgrounds in military behavioral knowledge of military culture, the work of military psychologists, and evidence-based strategies to treat military members.
  • Jacqueline Coppock and Jeanette Santos, PsyD students, are winners of the 2016 American Association of University Women (AAUW), San Antonio Branch graduate scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is for use in paying for tuition, books and fees.

Mariachi de los Santos looking for new members

OLLU’s new Mariachi group, Mariachi de los Santos, will be holding auditions for new members. The group rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45-6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building. The group will perform on and off campus and those who make the group will receive one elective credit hour.

Update to summer and fall graduation application deadlines

Graduation application dates have changed for students who plan to graduate in the summer or fall 2016. The deadlines are as follows:

  • For students graduating in summer 2016 who plan to participate in the spring commencement ceremony, the application deadline is Wednesday, March 9.
  • For students graduating in summer 2016 who plan to participate in the fall commencement ceremony, the application deadline is Friday, April 1.
  • For students graduating in fall 2016, the application deadline is Friday, April 1.

Note: students who are lacking six hours or less to graduate in summer and have completed all other degree requirements, such as COMPS, portfolios, etc., may participate in spring commencement.
